An advanced tool is being developed to help manage urban sanitation systems preventively, tailored to the challenges of climate change. GESTOR generates indicators related to discharges from combined sewer systems (CSS), infiltration and exfiltration of wastewater, and degradation of collectors due to hydrogen sulfide corrosion. It has a duration of 4 years, evaluates the real case of the sewer system in Peñíscola, and develops a platform applicable to any urban sanitation network.
Retos-Colaboración Program 2013-2016
Co-financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the ERDF
Project partners:
Sociedad Fomento Agrícola Castellonense SA (FACSA)
Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA)
ABM
Project budget: €755,000.00
Execution period: 2016-2019
The platform provides a diagnosis of the operation of a sanitation network and indicates the critical points to be managed and the costs of both the existing infrastructure and the replacement of sections of the network. Economic indicators, network performance, probability of breakage or failure in relation to the lifespan of collectors, and risk assessment (overflows, discharges into the environment, structural collapse, odors, chemical and toxic risks, methane generation, and overall risk) are developed by the tool.
